Position: Social operator
Title of the Project: “SOCIAL WATER: improving the access to water and to services of psyco-social support targeting vulnerable minors and families living in the refugee camp of Rafah – Gaza Strip”.

Emergency initiative AID10910 funded by the Italian Agency of Cooperation and Development.

Duty Station: Gaza Strip, Rafah (refugee camp and city)
Duration of the contract: 7 months
Expected date to start the contract: 1st October 2017

Vento di Terra is an independent non-profit humanitarian organization committed to assist vulnerable
communities without access to basic services such as shelter, education, health, economic opportunities.

Its activities are based on the principles of solidarity, justice, human dignity, equality of rights and
opportunities, and respect for diversity and coexistence, paying special attention to the most vulnerable and
unprotected people.

Vento di Terra has worked in Occupied Palestinian Territories since 2006 mainly through projects in
education and protection for Bedouin communities of Area C, East Jerusalem and Gaza. The projects have been implemented in partnership with local communities and association and have raised the attention of the international communities on the difficult situation of Bedouins living in area C and particularly on their neglected rights.

Within the framework of a project funded by Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Italian Agency of Cooperation and Development, in July 2017, Vento di Terra has started the implementation of a project, in partnership with Italian NGO, OVERSEAS.

For this initiative, Vento di Terra is responsible for the implementation of activities of psycho-social support in 4 UNRWA schools based in Rafah (city and refugee camp). The social operator will implement the project activities of psycho-social support under the coordination of the Coordinator of the psycho-social support team and the supervision of the Expatriate Coordinator of the activities of psycho-social support, according to the duties and responsibilities mentioned below.

Duties & Responsibilities (Job Description)
Working closely with all the Team involved in the project (Coordinator of the psycho-social support team and Coordinator of the psycho-social support activities) the Social Operator will be responsible, under the supervision and coordination of the Coordinator of the psycho-social support team , of the implementation of the activities according to the schedule defined by the project.
In particular, the social operator will:
• define the weekly, monthly activity plan under coordination of the Coordinator of the psycho-social support team
• Implement activities of psycho-social support (workshops, open days) for the selected students of the UNRWA schools in Rafah in the school space and in the hours individuated by VdT in agreement with the schools’ principals and teachers, and under the monitoring and supervision of the coordinator of the psychosocial
support team
• Implement the activities with the parents (workshops) under the monitoring and supervision of the
coordinator of the psycho-social support team
• manage and monitor general and monthly planning of project activities, as well as relative economic and financial planning
• send to the coordinator of the psycho-social support team reports on project activities implementation and the monthly project activity reports (in Arabic language)
• Maintain a high level of collaboration and coordination with all the VdT staff, local staff and the local community.

Requirements
Education/Experience
• A minimum of 1 year experience in the field of education or psychosocial projects .
• Previous experience in the implementation of psycho-social support activities with children (aged 12-17)
• Good English knowledge is an asset
• Ability to work in a team and under pressure and against deadlines
• Knowledge of INGO
• Residency in Rafah highly desirable or previous working experience in the same territory

PERSONAL SKILLS
• Negotiation, and communication skills combined with high degree of patience and cultural sensitivity
• Familiar with participatory approach
• Work organization skills
• Highly organized and able to work respecting deadlines
• Strong sense of responsibility
