The words are more powerful than the killing bullet. It is the power of the keyboard to narrate the during-war and after-war anecdotes ,and how the writers can guide the political movement to approach peace easily. it is the time for the current generation to shoot the words.
The Remembering is an international writing event targeting the citizens of the conflict zones: Israel and Palestine (Gaza and West Bank) , India and Pakistan , Rwanda and DRC, and Serbia and Kosovo. The Red Elephant Foundation administers this international event as one of its cardinal goal to open the gates of cultural dialogue , the mutual understanding among the residents of conflict areas, and the convergent of ideas for the sake of peacebuilding.
The main objective of the project is to collect narratives from people on both sides of a conflict, and to project the fact that conflict affects both sides of a conflict equally. This interwriting program is designed to give the opportunity to those who cannot reach the political microphone to express their perspectives on the political, social, and economic questions. Also, it helps them write about their experiences during the conflicts and draw the images of suffering and the destruction of the war. The writers will be able to propose the popular solutions to the conflict and find a peaceful way to put an end to the conflict.
The project will be conducted through 4 stages:
Phase 1: Israel and Palestine
Phase 2: India and Pakistan
Phase 3: Rwanda and DRC
Phase 4: Serbia and Kosovo
The Task: We would like to invite people from Israel and Palestine to share their stories and messages of peace. Israel has a history rooted in the Holocaust, and Palestine has a history rooted in the conflict for land, with Palestine. We would like to invite the narratives from both sides in about 1500 to 2500 words, talking about personal stories from conflict, and why peace is something both participants yearn for.
The Editors Committee in the Red Elephant Foundation will choose 10 narratives each from both sides of conflict zones, and publish them in a book. The committee will contact the chosen writers later.
