MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES In accordance with established Agency policy and procedures, the ideal candidate:
-Provides overall direction and leadership to the Professional Development and Curricula and Assessment Units, ensuring full coordination and compliance with the Agency strategies and Education Framework towards capacity building and improvement of the education quality;
-Provides substantive support in overseeing the proper implementation of the Education Reform and follows up on its impact on strategies and other initiatives;
-Participates actively and provides substantial support in the planning, monitoring and evaluation of the coherent implementation of inclusive Education policies and strategies; and reports against their achievement;
-Monitors and evaluates the implementation of the planned on-going in-service and school based development training courses/programmes, including School Based for Teacher Development (SBTD) and Leading for Future (LfF);
-Oversees communication with relevant stakeholders in UNRWA, host government, NGOs and other training and professional development providers to coordinate and provide strategic overview and enhance professional development interventions and capacity building;
-Monitors, evaluates and formulates instructions and guidance on the effective use of school specialized rooms and their inclusion in classrooms practices, to contribute to the improvement of the learning quality;
-Liaises with the Ministry of Education on the host government curricula; ensures the alignment of textbooks and enrichment materials with UNRWA Curriculum Framework principles and competencies;
-Plans, directs, and monitors and evaluates the implementation of learning support and recreational activities to ensure their complementarity with the overall Education Programme objectives;
-Performs such other duties as may be assigned.


PERSONAL & PROFESSIONAL COMPETENCIES
-A Master Degree in Education OR
-A Master Degree in a related subject taught at UNRWA schools, or to the functions of the UNRWA Education including but not limited to Psychology, Human Rights, Health Education, in combination with a Teaching Diploma or Equivalent.
-At least seven years’ experience in teaching subject(s) relevant to those taught in UNRWA schools of which at least four years’ experience should be in a senior educational post.
-Excellent command of written and spoken English and Arabic.
-Ability to plan, evaluate and act strategically;
-Ability to deploy, motivate and lead a professional team;
-Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with others in team working environment;
-Excellent communication skills;
-Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines;
-Problem solving and decision making skills;
-Commitment to professional learning and development including keeping oneself abreast of contemporary research in the area of teaching, learning and teacher development.
-Proficiency in standard Agency computer applications.
-It’s desirable to hold PhD in education or a related subject.
-The incumbent may be required to work beyond the regular working hours;
-The incumbent may be required to drive an UNRWA vehicle, thus should be in possession of a valid driving license.

CONDITIONS OF SERVICE
-Basic Salary: Monthly basic salary $1546.90; plus a currency adjustment factor (present rate 12.5%) and monthly dependency allowance up to $123.25, and Senior Professional Officer Allowance at the rate of 25% of the basic salary.
-Contract Duration: Three years including 1 year probation period.
-Leave: 30 days annual leave
-Pension: Provident Fund contribution
-Other conditions of service and benefits may apply.


EQUIVALENCY
Candidates with an equivalent combination of relevant academic qualifications, professional training and progressive work experience may also be considered.
